White Caps Mill

The White Caps Mill Facility (the “Mill”) has a processing capability of 250 tons ores per day. Mill's operation, the primary source exists in mine rock dumps and tailings approximately one mile east of the town of Manhattan.  These tailings and dumps are residues of abandoned mining operations from more than 50 years ago.  The dumps and tailings were deposited directly atop native soils and not contained within incarceration or other retaining structure.  They are spreading across time, degrading adjacent lands, creating potentially unsafe conditions, and eroding over time.  The Mill will remove approximately 300,000 tons of these existing dumps and tailings from the landscape and process them in the Mill.  Processing will extract gold, silver, and other precious minerals from the ore.  As the tailings and dumps are removed, the Mill will reclaim the area.  Processed tailings and dump material will be permanently contained within the modern tailings impoundments.

 In its Survey of Mining Companies: 2011/2012, The Fraser Institute ranked Nevada as one of the top 10 most attractive jurisdictions for mineral exploration and development in the view of the international mining industry.  The state of Nevada is one of the largest gold producing districts in the world, having led the United States in gold production since 1981 and producing 76% of the nation’s gold production in 2008.  Gold accounted for 79% of Nevada’s total non-fuel raw mineral production value in 2008, followed by copper, construction sand and gravel, silver, lime, and crushed stone.  Nevada produced 5,640,000 troy ounces of gold in 2009. As well, for the seventh consecutive year, Nevada ranked second in silver production, accounting for 19% of the silver produced from U.S. mines.
